I don't wan to sound pessimistic, but I hear something similar when Scott Violet left Sun and beansbinding project. Shannon Hickey's last blog entry is from October 2007 and last release is dated november 2. Too quiet for a "long time waited" improvement, I think.
I am using beansbinding and appframework in my NetBeans projects but with Hans departure I am starting to wonder where these projects are headed. Is not that Hans can't be replaced, it is about Sun's commitment with these projects.
