1.5 has already started its end of life cycle and will complete the
cycle by the end of 2009. If you are writing new code it's time to use
1.6 and prepare your customers to upgrade to 1.7 when it comes out this
summer.
I try to make it a requirement for all my customers to receive upgrades
and bug fixes that they have to have the latest JRE. For software that
will never be updated it really doesn't matter what platform you use.
When 1.7 appears it's going to have some new deployment features that
will make updating a lot easier for the programmer and the user.
That's my 2 cents any way :-).
